A Little Link-Love
One of our projects has been featured on Arcadian Lighting's blog in a post about the importance of lighting your kitchen island. We're excited to see our work featured. Thanks, Arcadian Lighting! For this particular project, our client was remodelling an apartment in the residence tower of a luxury hotel to use as a secondary residence. The existing space did not resonate with their personal aesthetic. They wanted their home to reflect their elegant, contemporary sensibilities. Without major architectural changes, they wanted the large kitchen and adjoining sitting room to reflect their appreciation for dramatic color and luxurious finishes, all while utilizing existing appliances, maintaining the existing cabinetry layout, and working within the constraints of a very tight budget.
To take the kitchen from a warm, transitional style to a sleek, contemporary space, existing cherry cabinetry, which houses a television, microwave oven, ice makers and wine refrigeration, was given a custom ebonized finish. Touches of stainless steel were added in sleek knobs and a decorative panel on the vent hood. The existing stone backsplash was replaced with stainless steel lit by cool LED’s, to amplify the contemporary drama of the space.
Dual Subzero refrigerators and freezer drawers were encased in ebonized cabinetry. Topped with a lighted niche, and flanked by glass display shelves, the refrigerator’s practical use is obscured by elegant millwork.
The Wolf range’s six burners, grill, and two ovens are perfectly suited for large parties or intimate dinners.
The island, which contains a refuse and recycling station, warming drawers, dish washer and additional storage is decked with Giallo Dorado granite with a sculptural edge. The spacious deck allows seating for four for casual family dinners.
Jerusalem Gold Limestone on the floor provides a warm counterpoint to the dramatic cabinetry and cool stainless steel.
